Alive in Scotland

As believers, we desire to see people’s lives changed with the Good News. In this effort, we spent many years pioneering a church planting effort overseas in an unreached nation.

As doors shut there, a new door opened as we were invited to post-Christian Scotland. The trip’s purpose was to get a vision for joining a church planting effort in the UK. The vision is to plant 30 churches by 2030. The last night we were there, a young pastor came to us. He urged us to use our experience in missions to begin a ministry to reach the many unchurched international students attending university in Glasgow.

As the pandemic hit, our efforts shifted to pressing issues in our own home country. The need arose and we planted a church in the mountains of NC. And yet, the call of missions continued to burden our hearts.

We again received a pressing invitation to visit the UK. While in Glasgow, Scotland, we saw the huge need in this post-Christian nation. Scotland was once one of the great mission sending nations of the world. Think of David Livingston, Donald Fraser, Eric Little, James Chalmers, and Mary Slessor to name a few. Now the harvest there is great, but the laborers are few and over burdened.

We felt the Lord calling us to come alongside this great endeavor as volunteers with a church planting effort in the large metropolitan city of Glasgow for the next few years. Our mission focus will be outreach to the unchurched international students, in partnership with the church planting effort. 

We can’t help but be excited over this new development, as our heart is always to reach the unreached! Our long standing theme has been to bridge East and West together, and this ministry brings that into a deeper focus. 

At this point, we have raised 75% of our support! And we just had a church generously commit to covering a majority of our moving expenses! We are excited to see God move in our brothers’ and sisters’ hearts to see this happen. Our target date is to get there Fall of 2024 (See UPDATE on BLOG) or as near of that time when we have our needed support. We definitely need your prayers, but there is no doubt we need your financial support, too! Every bit counts. Generosity is never unrewarded in the Kingdom of God. Giving towards reaching the goal, coupled with PRAYER, create the foundation of “prayerful givers” in our lives and in missions in general. We can only do what God has called us to do, if we do it together with you as partners!
